His roamings in search of the teetotallers' paradise (which luckily he still hasn't found - it must be a grim place to end up) have brought him the length and breadth of Italy. He would have preferred to journey up and down, being a mountain-man at heart, and indeed is eternally home-sick for his beloved woods and hills. He now lives in Modena in a flat that is much too small for the mess that he generates around him. He is a good example of a bad husband and father. His friends call his wife Silvia "The Saint" and if you ask his three children about their father, they'll answer "Giovanni who?" But they love him all the same.
